Nov. 8 PLC


GOAL: What do we want to achieve?
·      Improve student online reading skills
·      Discover and develop strategies for online readers
PLAN:  How are we going to achieve this?
·      Research effective online reading strategies
·      Develop a collection of research-based online content reading materials (age-appropriate)
·      Determine specific strategies to use for specified reading materials
ROLE:  How can I contribute?
·      Provide working Google Doc available to all content teachers
REWARD:  What will I get out of this?
·      Access to online reading strategy toolbox
·      Understand the difference between print and non-print resources

Tasks:
Members will research and report reading strategies within their own area:
Kathy Hosch:    Will report on research about reading strategies fiction online
Don Osterhaus: Research on differences between print and online reading
Ann Lebo:         Research management of distractions so students can read more effectively
Bev Ahern:        Researching online reading responses
Bob Munson:    Researching reading on paper vs. reading on a screen or device
Joan Schuller:   Research online vocab strategies
John Baade:      Research on the topic of electronic reading dealing with social sciences and student
                          achievement.
Cara Doak:        Research online note-taking vs. marking strategies.
